How much will energy cost?
An energy bill is two official numbers multiplied together: how much energy a home uses, which the government publishes as an average for every local authority, and what a unit and a day cost, which Ofgem caps. This page keeps them apart so you can see which one is doing the work, and lets you replace the average with your own meter readings.

What this does and does not measure
The consumption figures are the mean per domestic meter in Middlesbrough: the average is pulled up by large, old and electrically heated homes and says nothing about any one household, which is why you can overtype it. The cap is a maximum for default tariffs; fixed deals and off-cap tariffs can be cheaper or dearer. Gas figures cover a gas year and are weather-corrected; electricity figures are not. Nothing here is a bill anyone has been sent.
