Where do renters pay the largest share of local pay?
The published median private rent in each local authority, multiplied by twelve and divided by median annual pay of full-time employees living there: the share of a middle full-time salary that a median rent would take. Both figures are published; the division is a Civometry calculation, and every area shows its arithmetic.

What this map shows
316 of 348 local authority areas have a current value for annual rent as a share of pay (annual rent as a percentage of median full-time pay), median monthly private rent July 2026, median full-time annual pay 2025. Classes are quantiles of the areas with data, computed on the server, so the same link always gives the same legend.
It compares two area-level published medians. It is not the rent or the income of any particular household.
