The ONS's estimate of long-term arrivals from outside the United Kingdom, departures to outside it, and the difference between them, for each local authority over the year to mid-2025. These are estimates of moves, not counts of people, and the local figures are the ONS's own distribution of its national estimate.

The count view draws the ONS's own figure of net moves, with nothing divided: a large area will show more moves than a small one for that reason alone. The per-1,000 view divides that figure by the area's ONS mid-year population estimate for the mid-year the period ends at - a Civometry calculation, not a published rate. Coverage
The ONS publishes components of population change for England and Wales. National Records of Scotland and NISRA publish their own for Scotland and Northern Ireland, on their own bases, and neither is drawn here.

Stale areas
An area whose newest published year is earlier than the newest any area carries is shown as no current data, with both years named. Nothing is carried forward.
Moves within the United Kingdom, short-term migration, or how many people arrived: a net figure can hide large flows in both directions. It is not the same measure as the national net migration series, which is published separately and on a different basis.
These are the ONS's estimates of how a local population changed over one mid-year to the next, not a count of people. Internal migration is a move between local authorities within the United Kingdom, estimated mainly from GP registrations, so a move by someone who does not register with a new doctor may be missed and a student may be counted moving in but not out. International migration at local authority level is the ONS's distribution of its national long-term migration estimate across areas, which is why the areas sum to the national figure by construction rather than by observation; the ONS has been revising both the national estimate and the way it is distributed, and describes these local figures as under development. Each edition revises the years before it, so a figure here belongs to its edition and figures from different editions must not be spliced. A net figure can hide two large flows: an area with a net of zero may have had thousands of arrivals and thousands of departures. England and Wales only.
These are estimates, not counts. The number is a count of moves over a year, not a rate and not a stock: it does not say how many people in an area were born abroad, which is a census question. No direction is set for this layer.
