Description
The AAT identifies vehicles of interest (VOIs) by using the National ANPR System (NAS). The AAT allows users to upload NAS exported .CSVs and, once processed, it provides analysis on the data by identifying VOIs and unusual patterns. Analysts can then create intelligence packs to inform local police on potential County lines related stop and search opportunities. The tool was trialled by the North West (NW) ROCU in 2022 and then, due to significant increases in the success rate of CL-related stop and searches, the trial was expanded in 2024 under Operation Ignition to an additional 2 ROCUs - Yorkshire & Humber (YH) and South East (SE) ROCUs. During that second trial, areas of tool development were identified, alongside the need for further ML in order that the tool could be made more widely available across all ROCUs and other crime types in the future. This Machine Learning (ML) phase will ensure that the AAT can deliver region specific insights into County lines and provide the evidence required to inform future national adoption.
