What this measures
Electricity consumption per domestic meter for every published year before the newest, from the same DESNZ workbook as the modern series. The same statistic carried back to 2012 on current boundaries; earlier sheets use pre-GSS area codes and are not read.
What this doesn’t measure
The bill, which also depends on the tariff and standing charge.
Important caveat
DESNZ sub-national consumption statistics count meters, not households, and allocate each meter to a local authority by its postcode. Gas figures are weather-corrected and cover a gas year (2024 is mid-May 2024 to mid-May 2025); electricity figures are not weather-corrected and cover February to January. Means are per meter across all domestic meters in the area, so they are raised by large, electrically heated and multi-meter properties and say nothing about homes with no gas supply. Scottish councils are in the source but outside the site's geography registry, so only Great Britain, nation, region and English and Welsh authority rows are held.
