Statutory homelessness in England: detailed local authority tables
The series starts at 2025 Q4, not 2026 Q1. MHCLG redesigned the workbook into accessible single-header sheets (with a Cover naming the quarter and its status) for the January-to-March-2026 release, and on 4 August 2026 also added an accessible re-issue of the October-to-December-2025 quarter alongside that quarter's original file — "Detailed local authority level tables: October to December 2025 - Accessible", Statutory_Homelessness_Detailed_Local_Authority_Data_202512_accessible.ods. That accessible re-issue is the file ingested for 2025 Q4; the original 202512 file is not readable. Every other quarter back to 2022 Q1 (checked: 202203 through 202512, plus 202403/202406/202409 which are .xlsx) exists only in the legacy layout — no Cover sheet at all, so the published status the extractor stamps is not stated anywhere in the file, no "Organisation Identification Code" header row, and a six-row merged header block whose wording differs from the accessible headers ("Bed and breakfast hotels (including shared annexes)" + "Total number of households" against "Households in B&Bs including shared annexesTotal"). Reading those would take a second extractor built on a hand-written equivalence table, not a tolerant version of this one, so they are left out rather than guessed at. If MHCLG issues accessible re-releases of further back quarters they will ingest with no code change. Each quarter lives on its own release page, so publication_url must be repointed when a new quarter appears. Figures are rounded to the nearest 10 and small cells are suppressed ("[c]"), so components can differ slightly from published totals elsewhere; the accommodation-type and duty splits are required to sum to their totals within rounding drift, and the extractor enforces that. Temporary-accommodation tables are a stock at the quarter's end; assessment tables are a flow during the quarter.
